We are launching a new Starset Society service: Tss.Rocks. If everything goes smoothly, this project will replace the previous Chinese mirror site of the Starset Society.
The original Chinese mirror site was built following the structure of the official site thestarsetsociety.org, using WordPress and the same theme. However, over the past few years, We've noticed that the official site hasn't been well-maintained. It suffered a malicious attack around two years ago (similar to the one the mirror site faced in 2020) and, post-recovery, only restored article publishing and reposting, without other elements like the custom theme, submission page, and related articles component. This made us feel that following the official site's design might not be the best approach anymore.
Additionally, developing with WordPress is beyond our current capabilities. We can only passively use existing themes and plugins as users. While WordPress offers an excellent writing and publishing experience, as a site inherently needing to repost and translate articles, we require additional plugins to reduce the manual maintenance burden. The current plugin setup doesn't fully meet our needs.
Other factors also contributed to the decision to move away from WordPress, such as the complexity of implementing natural bilingual support and the trademark and open-source contribution controversies surrounding the WordPress project itself, which we won't delve into here. In summary, we aim to achieve more efficient content management with the new site and revitalize the translation support work for the Starset Society.
